Eight

Months

Old

How? When?

Why?

We are loving this stage, though.  As much as I lament the rapid disappearance of my little floppy newborn, I love love love how interactive she is now.

She’s [mobile] which is scary enough as it is.  The baby gates are out, and she’s an army crawling fiend.  I honestly don’t think she’s going to traditionally crawl.  She pushes with her toes and pulls with her arms; she rolls; she sits up and swivels on her butt.  She’s figured out her own version of mobility and it suits her just fine.

And she’s [fast]

Her babbles are becoming more….composed?  I guess that’s the right word.  She thinks about it before she babbles.  Then she babbles.  Then she looks at you for a response.  Then she grins when you respond.

It’s amazing watching her figure this out.  She’s [learning] right before my eyes.

And today

during her eight month shoot

oh my

she did [this]

RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME

Yes, I shrieked for Stephen who, bless his heart, was curled up in the fetal position sick in bed.

Yes, he came.

And saw it.

In the solid food arena, she likes to gnaw on bananas but spits out the pieces.  If I mash it up with a fork, she eats it right up.  Texture isn’t something she’s fond of, yet.  Purees, however, she eats with great gusto.  Her current favorites are roasted sweet potatoes with a bit of coconut milk and roasted sweet potato with pears and cinnamon.  I really enjoy making her food.  We have an amazing farmer’s market here that’s open year-round, so I know I’m getting quality produce for her.  In the coming weeks I’m going to start giving her more stuff with texture and things to gnaw on like bananas, apple slices, chicken, etc.  It’s exciting to watch her explore food and know that her palate is being developed towards healthy, wholesome food.

So much happening with this little monster…..eh, angel….

Right.

Eight Months, y’all

Tuesday Tea

Today is a coffee sort of a day.  Last night was a up-every-few-hours-fighting-sleep-and-crying sort of a night.  I think I’m getting used to them.  Or I’ve just resigned myself to them.  In either case, I think my brain has finally accepted the fact that she’s going through [something] right now and it’s making her sleep patterns all janky.

We’ll get through it.

Stephen thought for a moment last night she had a tooth popping through but visual examination yielded nothing.  Who knows…

Crawling is still hovering on the precipice.  She pops up and hops forward on her knees then faceplants because she doesn’t move her arms.  When she gets the arms in there, she’ll be mobile.

She’s happily eating solids for breakfast every morning.  She nurses half the amount then flails happily in her high chair while I get her food ready.  I [love] making her food.  Our farmer’s market here has the best produce and being able to roast or steam something fresh and healthy is great.  She’s had pears, apples, sweet potatoes, acorn squash, carrots, bananas… I have some fresh avocados waiting for her and some steamed zucchini all ready to go for her to try next.  She has great messy fun with it all and usually eats every last bite.  She swipes at our plates now when we’re eating dinner and watches us intently when we’re eating.  I love this phase and I love introducing her to healthy, good food and cultivating her palate from scratch.

Stephen and I can’t wait until we can start adding spices to her food.  Thai, Indian, etc.  Oh it’s going to be fun.

T-minus five days and counting until we are in St. Louis for two weeks!

Can I possibly get across to you how unbelievably excited I am for this trip?  I get to see my mom, my stepdad, my grandmother, my brother, my sister-in-law, my nephews, my puppies….  And maybe Olivia will start crawling up there?  Wouldn’t that be amazing and cool?

Just keep us in your thoughts/prayers as we drive 10 hours Saturday night.  The Midwest got hit with lots of snowstorms and I don’t know [yet] how the roads and the weather will be during our drive.  I hope safe and worry-free and Olivia sleeps for the vast majority of it.

That would be perfect.

Oh! By the way, a Twitter friend of mine just opened an Etsy shop!  Go buy her beautiful headbands!

And buy me one, while you’re at it.

No, really.

This one.

Something has happened on Twitter.

Inside jokes.

Hilarity.

Commiserating.

Kindred souls.

I have made some really awesome friends.  And it’s [fantastic].

Four of them are on Etsy and have [amazing] shops and well-written blogs and are some of the best people to Tweeter with.

BabyEtte

You have heard me wax poetic about Beth before.  I own four of her creations – 2 ring slings and 2 wraps – and I [love love love] them so much.  I am constantly stopped and asked about them whenever I’m out babywearing.  Olivia loves to snuggle up in them so much that she’s starting to recognize them and squeals happily when she sees me get one out.  I cannot tell you how much I love babywearing or how many times it’s saved my sanity or allowed me to get things done around the house.

Create Beauty Daily

Cameron is such a sweet, wonderfully hilarious soul.  I swear in another life we were sisters.  Maybe even twins.  Her jewelry is gorgeous.  I don’t own anything personally (YET!) but I’ve purchased some as gifts and I’m always so pleased and so tempted to keep it for myself.

It’s [so hard] to give it away.

Julie Vision Designs

Julie is another hilarious twin-from-another-life (maybe she, Cameron and I were triplets…) and I adore, adore, [adore] her work.  Her clutches are beautiful, whimsical, and so special.  I wish I’d known about her shop when I was married because I would have purchased the bridal clutch in a heartbeat.

Now, I’m not normally a clutch type of gal.  The purses I carry are large.  Especially now that I have a baby and, sometimes, just don’t want to tote a diaper bag around.  But Julie’s clutches are so pretty; I want to collect them all.

The Little Big Vintage Shop

Ms. Ex Libris, which should be her real name in my humble opinion, has one of the funniest blogs I’ve read and equally hilarious tweets.  I only recently discovered her Vintage Shop of Awesome; however, I have my eye on a certain number of things that I pray will last through the holiday season so I can procure them after the new year.

No one touch that little Japanese Print, okay?  I’m calling dibs.

There you go!  Four awesome shops to buy things from JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS.

Support vintage and handmade, y’all.

You save kittens when you do.  Or puppies.

Depends on your domestic pet of choice.
