finding the happy

Two years.

It may not seem like much to most people.  To us, it’s awesome.  This is our first anniversary as parents – granted I was hugely pregnant last year this time.  There’s a whirlwind happening right now – Olivia turning one; our impending move and all the doors it opens.  Today, we take a step back from it all and celebrate that very special, somewhat rainy, beautiful, wonderful day two years ago.

To my partner in this crazy adventure.

I love you.  More than words could express.  More than any card or any gift could convey.  I’m still ever so grateful you took the plunge and surprised me that day in our old apartment.  We’ve had so many ups and so many downs.  We’ve fought.  We’ve laughed.  We’ve cried.  We produced an incredibly adorable off-spring.  We’re moving halfway across the country on a hope.

And we’re doing it all together.  And will continue to do so many years into the future.

I wish I had something more eloquent to say.  But.

I’m having a blast showing off all our fancy wedding photos.

This was our [royal] fairytale wedding.  And we remember and loved every bit of it.

I have two for you today because I didn’t really do one last week.  There is just so much going on here.  Our two year anniversary is in a week (week from today!), Olivia turns ONE in two weeks (oh my crap), and we move 600 miles in three weeks (yay! wow! omg!).

So, lots going on.  That might be an understatement.  I still have to finalize a birthday menu, craft the decorations, buy one more present for her, a present for my husband, figure out what we’re doing on our anniversary, and pack up an entire house…

That said.  I’m taking the day off from doing stuff today.  I’m going to blog then piddle about on the computer and maybe play a video game while she naps.  Why?

Because I busted my ass last week making some awesome chair covers for my mother-in-law.

[to cover a seat]

Stephen’s family is awesome.  I could not have asked for better in-laws.  I hear horror stories of pushy mother-in-laws and father-in-laws who make rude comments about this, that or the other and I’m so ever grateful that my in-laws are laid back, no-nonsense, kind, loving, supportive people.

They have a really pretty long dining room table.  It seats ten fairly comfortably and is nice and high with no beams criss-crossing underneath so dogs and crawling babies can play fort and have a blast underneath.  The chairs are old and worn and the covers are equally worn and don’t quite fit right.  They’re too tall in the back and too long in the seat so they drape funny but the chairs are an odd shape and I’m not sure they make covers to fit these chairs perfectly.

I figured I would just make some.  It would be excellent sewing practise for me and it would be a nice “Mother’s Day / Birthday / I’m sorry we’re moving away” present for them.

They aren’t perfect.  The seams aren’t entirely straight and they poof out in places and don’t lay quite flat in others and some of the backs are a wee too tight.

However.

I love them.  And they love them.

Plus, they’re planning on repainting their dining room a wonderfully bright shade of rusty orange so I picked back panel cloth that would [hopefully] match the new color and still looks good with the current color.

Clever, no?

[bloom]

We were at the farmer’s market a few weeks ago and, usually, in addition to our shopping list, we pick up one or two extra treats for each of us.  I picked out some espresso caramels [which were amazing] and Stephen got a thing of green tea flowers.

Have you ever used blooming tea?  If not, please go find some and steep it in a clear pot.  It is awesome to watch.  Oddly creepy and strangely beautiful…

It’s like a crazy little water flower that should be swimming around the glass of its own accord.  It seems alive, if that makes sense.

And the tea was so wonderful and light.  Stephen microplaned a little bit of lemon rind into the tea and added a touch of honey.

Delicious.
