I have discovered something.  If you don’t pay any attention or acknowledge it’s occurrence, Olivia will walk short distances without thinking about it.  If you exclaim or tell her she’s done a good job, she will stop and refuse to walk anywhere for the rest of the afternoon.

Tricky baby.

However.

If she suddenly grins [at] you, raises her arms and shakily toddles directly towards your person and lunges into your lap, she is expecting raucous praise, hugs and many kisses.

Again.

Tricky baby.

Her walk is reminiscent of a monkey at the moment, arms up by her face, her whole body somewhat rigid yet swaying with her steps.  It’s a process – one she’s slowly perfecting every time she musters up the courage to try again.  She had two scary spills (no injuries) two weeks ago and was extremely cautious since then.  Cruising only.  Rapid, head-down crawling the rest of the time.  Only lately has she begun to let go and shakily wobble a few steps here and there.

But only when you aren’t looking.

I’m sure there’s a whole lesson here of getting back up on the horse as it were, but I won’t expound upon it.  Baby walks need no deep explanation or thought.

They just need video.

This is truly one of the best sounds ever.  You can be in the foulest of moods and feel like your whole world is topsy-turvy and then…

a baby laughs…

Today is a special day to me.

One year ago today, we found out we were having a girl.

I just [knew] she was a girl.  I can’t explain how I knew.  I just did.  It’s like I just [knew] I was pregnant without any outward signs or missed period.  Gut feeling?  Instinct?

Lots of folks were sure we were having a boy.  I don’t know why.  That always mystified me.

I wanted a little girl [so bad].  I cried a little when the ultrasound tech told us the gender.  Through my shaky voice and huge grin, I told Stephen, “I told you so.”

And, oh what a year since that day.

It’s almost as if I’ve become a new person.  I mean, I’m still me.  But I’m [more].

Does that make sense?

And our family.

Our little family went from a little black and white picture to a roly poly squishy baby.  And she’s grown [so much] in just nearly eight short months.

There’s much more to say and do, but short-nap baby is awake and I have many crafting-related errands to run today.

I leave you with this.

and I ask you…. when did she become a teenager?
